Iberian lynx m@ting!

The Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus) has a fascinating mating process. Typically, the breeding season occurs between January and March, depending on environmental conditions. Males become increasingly active during this time, often engaging in vocalizations and marking their territory to attract females.

When a female is in estrus, she emits specific scents and vocalizations to signal her readiness to mate. Males compete for access to her, often displaying aggressive behaviors to establish dominance. Courtship can involve a series of intricate behaviors, including playful interactions and grooming.

Once mating occurs, it lasts for several days and can involve multiple copulations. After a gestation period of about 60 to 70 days, the female will give birth to a litter of one to four kittens, typically in a secluded den. The kittens are born blind and rely heavily on their mother for nourishment and protection during their early months.
